Composite materials are nowadays extensively used in applications where outstanding mechanical properties are necessary together with significant weight savings. Their increased use presents new challenges to designers specially in those applications where materials are subjected to dynamic loading and impact events.
These series of four free webinars aim providing specialized engineers and researchers in the field with a rapid knowledge of the state-of-the art regarding dynamic behavior of structural composites, including mechanical characterization and advanced modelling techniques.
08/07/2020 12:00 – 13:00 hours CEST Performance priorities of composites for Dynamic Applications (Benjamin Russell, HEXCEL Composites) Registration
15/07/2020 12:00 – 13:00 hours CEST Micromechanical modelling of the dynamic behavior of composites: the challenge of determining the constituents’ properties under impact loading (Mario Rueda, IMDEA Materials) Registration
22/07/2020 12:00 – 13:00 hours CEST Damage assessment of composites subjected to impact loading (Federico Sket, IMDEA Materials) Registration
29/07/2020 12:00 – 13:00 hours CEST Characterization of structural composites for modelling impact loading (Carlos González, IMDEA Materials) Registration
These events are organized as part of the DYNACOMP (Dynamic behaviour of composite materials for next generation aeroengines) training network, funded by the Marie Skłodowska-Curie actions under grant agreement nº 722096.

Young scientists and engineers have wrapped up their three-day course on the nature and structure, processing, properties and applications of composite materials at IMDEA Materials Institute in Getafe (Spain).
14 students from ATG Europe B.V, University of Castilla la Mancha, Wroclaw University of Technology, Coventry University, Ideko S.Coop and IMDEA Materials Institute attended daily lectures by leading scientists from academia and industry. In the afternoons, the students were given practical lessons on the processing on composites and modeling.
The summer school on composite materials was supported by the DYNACOMP project, as part of the training of the 2 Early Stage Researchers (ESRs) of the network.

Opening of the conference by Dr. Jon Molina (coordinator of the DYNACOMP project) and Prof. Ignacio Romero (Director of IMDEA)

Dr. Martin Simmons (HEXCEL), delivering an introduction to composites

Participants manufacturing composite panels on day 1

Prof. Javier Llorca (IMDEA) explaining the virtual testing of composites on day 2

Tamara Blanco (AIRBUS) explaining the new challenges composites face for aeronautical applications on day 3

GETAFE (SPAIN) 11 – 13 JULY 2017
Composite mater
ials are nowadays extensively used in applications where outstanding mechanical properties are necessary in combination with weight savings. Their increased use has presented new challenges to engineers, largely due to the highly complex failure mechanisms of composite materials but also due to the many uncertainties that can exist in their manufacturing process. This summer school aims providing young engineers and researchers a rapid knowledge of the state-of-the art in the field (nature and structure, processing, properties and applications in different sectors) via a hands-on training experience.
